Oh Scrap! : RSC17 Blocks

Another Sunday so that means some scrappy sewing!

I am joining Angela over at SoScrappy for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again this year.  She picked purple for January's color.  Here is what my purple bin looked like - it was so crammed tight the fabric would not come out!

First, I tackled all those strips and strings.  I ended up with a big stack of about 25 ten inch string blocks and around 10 six inch blocks.  Someday I will get them out again to see what they become.

Some of the larger chunks, using my AccuQuilt fabric cutter, I cut them up into 2.5" squares for future projects.  I like to have a stock of these pre-cut and waiting.

From some of the squares, I made these purple 9 patch blocks.  I am not sure yet how I will use these but I have all year to think about it!

I can honestly say I made a nice big dent in my purple bin!
Now there is room for more  :)

Wow you really made a nice big dent in your bin, can't wait to see exactly what you make with them. I need to get going on my strings too.

Wow, that's a great reduction in your purple box. I've been inspired by you for the RSC and am going to do string blocks, also.

Wow! You quickly made your way through those purple scraps. Good for you. I find making basic blocks for RSC makes for some of the best quilts.

Purple -- a great color to start the year! I can't really believe it is time for another start of scrap projects!

I am not sure but I don't think I will follow along with RSC17. I want to choose a limited palette and do a scrappy project with it. My bins of greens and blues are almost unable to close so maybe that is what I should use up? What would you add to that, if anything? I don't have tons but I could do some minimal gray or white?

I sometimes wish I had more scraps so I could make fun blocks like you do. These look great!

Wow..you did make a huge dent. Love your string blocks. I have been mulling over doing some string piecing myself. I'm hoping that will help make a dent in my scraps. Thanks for the nsiration.

Pretty purple blocks I'd have a hard time coming up with one. I don't have a lot of purple in my stash.

Great filing system on those 2-1/2 inch squares! That makes me smile.

I've jumped in for the RSC 2017 as well. It's my first year and am so excited! Thank you for sharing such a variety of great ideas for using our scraps! I think I'll be going with making a string block quilt!
